The weather was perfect and the crowds were large, as Rector had visitors from all over Arkansas as the Class 2A State Softball Tournament kicked off here Friday.

The Jeremy McDaniel Memorial Sports Complex drew praise from visiting fans and coaches as it was in tip-top shape for the big tournament.

There were several good games Friday, with the most exciting being a 1-0 win by McCrory over Jessieville as the Lady Jags scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh.

The action promises to be strong as games start at noon Saturday at the complex. There will be quarterfinal games on each of two fields with the winners advancing to Monday's semifinals.
